Christmas was good to Rachel and I this year. We spent Christmas day with her family and the day after with mine. We both had a really good time on our first Christmas as a married couple. We were stuffed with good food and surrounded with great company. We got engaged a year and a few days ago. Time flies.
I was happy to read Mitch's latest post. Glad to know that i am not the only one still considering and reconsidering my goals and race calender for the 2009 season. Ihave been trying to pin down what exactly it is that i want out of 2009 as far as racing and riding go. In my mind i've wrestled back & forth with my goals for the spring. I have toyed with racing into the early summer then reseting my year to a schedule that would allowme to focus on a full cross season followed by the 2010 spring TMBRA series. It would be strange to apply my winter break to the summer and do my base build in late summer to early fall, but who knows, may be it could be my thing. It would definitely let me focus on the races I like the most and want to do best at. In my head im pretty sure i have a plan that would allow me to be successful on this calender. This hybrid schedule (in theory) could give me the same eight to nine month duration of races I have been doing and allow me to focus on the two biggest state series of the two disciplines that i have the most fun with. And sincee im not concerned with the National calendar I wouldn't be missing anything over the summer. I have fun doing mountain, cross and road. Road is on the bottom of the list. At least i think it is. I have an old, steady love for the mountain bike and a new zealous love for cross. The more i reflect on it the more i realize i just want to do races that are fun. And obviously i would like to do good at them. Hell, I would love to win them. But anyway its a good theory for now. I will see where im at as the spring winds down and go from there.
As for now i have to get myself back on track. I slacked the first couple weeks of my base build. But it was a needed mental rest. Im refreshed and ready to get back on track. I got in a good one today on my recently single speeded cross bike. 42x17 is just what i need to roll a comfy cadence and hit the HR zones i need for base rides. After three hours on it today i was starting to hurt, might have to use gears for tomorrows ride. I got some new shades from Rachel for Christmas, they are niiice. I forgot how comfortable Oakley's are.
